Route description:
Endless suggestions and emotions, in this one-of-a-kind experience, passing between wild promontories, a succession of hills, plains, woods, and tufaceous walls up to the crest of the island of Ischia, which gives us unique sunsets in the world.
The route starts near the Bracconiere restaurant in Serrara where, through a wild and fascinating landscape on the western side of the island, you reach the Frassitelli wood, a terrace of very dense acacias.
In the woods, locust trees shade rocks covered in moss, lichens and wild fennel. The undergrowth is the realm of the wild rabbit which has played and plays a fundamental role in the local culinary tradition.
Arrived at the height of a stone arch, which gives way to the imagination to travel in space and time, the path continues steeply uphill until you reach a dirt road that leads to Pietra dell'Acqua (huge tuff rock that serves as cistern, hence the name).
We have now reached the crest of Mount Epomeo, and the route continues until we reach the highest peak of the island, Punta San Nicola, where there is a hermitage dug into the huge mass of green tuff that forms the peak itself.
From this point, through an ancient cattle track carved into the rock, which then becomes a mule track, passing through a chestnut wood, the descent begins which takes us to Piazza di Fontana.
