Monte Epomeo path

The excursion begins in the small square of the town of Fontana, and then continues on via Pendio Oscuro, an ancient path that leads to the Pietra dell'Acqua area, which takes its name from a rainwater cistern dug inside of a huge block of tuff.

From the Pietra dell'acqua we will cross the ridge overlooking the Frassitelli and Falanga woods to reach the area of San Nicola from where the real ascent to the top of Mount Epomeo (789 m a.s.l.) will begin. Near the summit we will meet the hermitage and the rock church dedicated to Saint Nicholas (15th century) where we will stop and visit the cult building.

The return route to the square of Fontana will develop along the military road that crosses the Migliaccia area, where we will be able to travel along the ancient road that originally connected the village to the mountain.
